Last night I attended Big Night Out with baby sis. I'm not a huge fan of indie music (contradicting because one of my favorite bands is indie) in general but I just accompanied her anyways because I love Vampire Weekend.
We got there at about 7 but the queue to get into the venue was so long, we decided to just sit around but the queue got even longer and longer so we joined the queue anyways. When we were in, Band of Horses already started playing their set, I'm not a fan of Band of Horses but they weren't bad live. In fact, they sounded better compared to the televison/radio. Still not a fan of theirs though.
They played for about an hour. To be honest, indie music don't really move me as much as general rock or metal music does. There are a ton of good indie bands out there and I can appreciate their music like Vampire Weekend, Death Cab For Cutie and so on, but I just don't feel for these bands.
Vampire Weekend took the stage about half an hour later, they opened to Cousins. The crowd went crazy as well as little sis. They are little sis's favorite band. They played most of their songs from the first album, I was enjoying them a lot and dancing to the beat. Ezra's voice is much better live, I had the most fun when they played A-Punk!
They were on stage for a little over an hour, it felt like they played a lot of songs because most of their songs are quite short. They ended to Walcott, little sis was smiling the entire time it was so funny. She actually missed the chance to watch them twice, so I guess she must be so happy to finally watch them. Third time's the charm?
I didn't get any good pictures of any of the bands because I was standing quite far back. I don't really care about standing in the front. I think out of the over 30 concerts I've been to, I've only stood right in front, in the first row 3 times?
After Vampire Weekend's set, we went to get drinks. Luckily, the weather was not as hot as I expected it to be but still, very dehydrated. There were several booths for beverages but we walked all the way up of the hill to get them because the other booths were so crowded. And we got lazy to squeeze our way back for Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Crowd for the night.
I didn't expect it to have that many people. Almost the whole park was filled. Well, goes to show how popular indie music is these days.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs started playing half an hour later too, I don't know any of their songs except Zero and Heads Will Roll. But surprisingly, I enjoyed their set too. Karen O's voice is really, really good live. I love when she screams and the huskiness of her voice. Love love love.
When they finally started playing Heads Will Roll, the first line that she sang "Off with your heads, dance dance till you're dead" gave me goosebumps. Soooooooo goooood. I think I only danced to that song because it's the only thing I knew, haha.Their set was good, though I won't listen to their music because it just isn't my cup of tea, I still would watch them live if I get another chance too. I also really loved how the guitar sounds live.
I'm tired and drained for being out for the entire day so here I leave you with this video...
